Kabul (UNA-OIC) – US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Monday had a phone call with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, during which they discussed regional security and the situation in Afghanistan.
Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby provided a readout stating that Austin spoke by phone with Bajwa “to discuss our mutual goals of security and stability in the region”.
During the call, the Defense Secretary expressed his interest in continuing to improve the US-Pakistan relationship and build upon the multiple shared interests in the region.
Austin and Bajwa discussed the ongoing situation in Afghanistan, regional security and stability, and the bilateral defense relationship more broadly, the readout stated.
