Caretaker Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Gulaid (SONNA)
Mogadishu (UNA) – President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has appointed Mahdi Mohamed Gulaid as the Caretaker Prime Minister of the Horn of Africa nation, after Hassan Ali Kheyre’s government lost the vote of no confidence in the parliament.
Mahdi Mohamed Gulaid, who was serving as the deputy prime minister until his appointment to the new post, will continue to run the caretaker government.
President Farmajo reiterated that the new changes are in line with the government’s commitment to deliver an inclusive, credible and timely election to fulfill the democratic aspirations of the Somali people, as per the Constitution, the National Electoral Law and the outcome of the Dhuusamareeb Consultative Forum, which is scheduled to continue with the next round of meetings starting 15 August 2020.
Effective from Saturday and as per the Provisional Constitution, Mahdi Mohamed Gulaid will serve in the new capacity until the nomination of a permanent prime minister to pursue the path of rebuilding Somalia, in line with the government’s vision and the expectations of the Somali people.
