ICC Prosecutor Karim Asad Khan begins visit to Sudan

Khartoum (UNA-OIC) – Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Asad Khan and his accompanying delegation arrived in Sudan’s capital Khartoum on Monday evening.

The ICC prosecutor and his accompanying delegation, including Senior Trial Lawyer Julian Nicholls, Senior Adviser to the Prosecutor Thomas Lynch, and International Cooperation Advisor in the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) Dahirou Santa-Anna, will discuss with the Sudanese officials ways to boost cooperation on the ongoing investigation file related to Darfur region of western Sudan.

They are also scheduled to meet with diplomats and representatives of the civil society organizations. ICC Prosecutor Khan will hold a press conference by the end of his visit to Sudan on Thursday.

Karim Asad Khan, 51, a British specialist in international criminal law and international human rights law, took office on 16 June 2021, as the new ICC prosecutor, replacing Gambia’s Fatou Bensouda.

He says as the new ICC chief prosecutor, he will reach out to nations that are not members of the court and try to hold trials in countries where crimes are committed.
