RIYADH (UNA-OIC) – The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) and Arab Red Crescent and Red Cros Organization (ARCO) signed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Cooperation at the headquarters of the ARCO in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The Memorandum, signed by UNA acting Director-General Mohammed Abd Rabbo Al-Yami and the adviser to the ARCO Secretary-General, Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Hazza, aims to establish cooperation and partnership between the two sides in the field of humanitarian media.
It is also intended to strengthen the relationship between News Agencies and the authorities of Red Crescent and Red Cros in a way that contributes to highlighting the crucial activities and initiatives undertaken by these institutions in the field of relief work.
In addition to signing the memorandum, the two sides discussed aspects of cooperation in the areas of common interest, including methods of News Dissemination on humanitarian crises and expanding the range of press coverage for humanitarian response efforts.
UNA’s Director-General, Muhammed Abd Rabbo Al-Yami, was briefed on the ARCO’s facilities, including the Disaster Management Center and Training Center, and listened to an explanation of how these centres are managed and the methods used by the ARCO in monitoring and forecasting humanitarian crises and disasters.
He also exchanged honorary shields with the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization Secretary-General, Dr. Saleh bin Hamad Al-Tuwaijri.
Al-yami praised ARCO’s efforts in coordinating relief and humanitarian work in the Arabic World, noting that the Memorandum signed today will positively impact the capacity building of media professionals in Member States in the various fields of humanitarian communication.
