UN Special Envoy for Libya concludes official visit to UAE

Tripoli (UNA-OIC) – UN Special Envoy and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ján Kubiš concluded on Saturday a three-day visit to the United Arab Emirates.

During the visit, from 8 to 10 April, Kubiš met with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and discussed the situation in Libya, including the positive development, which resulted in the creation of a unified government and Presidency Council.

The two sides discussed ways to advance the implementation of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) Roadmap, holding of national elections on 24 December, and the ceasefire agreement. They agreed on the need to support the newly elected interim authority in Libya to achieve unity, stability, and prosperity.

The Special Envoy also met with State Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalifa Shaheen al-Marar, and Diplomatic Advisor to the President Dr. Anwar Gargash. He expressed the UN appreciation for the UAE’s support to the dialogue processes in Libya and to the UN efforts aimed at assisting the Libyan people in their quest for a stable, democratic stage, ending years-long of transitional periods, and moving forward towards sovereign, unified and stable Libya.
