Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Saleh bin Hamad Al-Suhaibani visited today President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser, at the IsDB’s headquarters in Jeddah.
During the meeting, congratulations were conveyed to Al-Jasser on the occasion of his recent election and appointment as Head of the IsDB Group.
This visit comes with the aim of deepening the relations of integration and cooperation between the various specialized, subsidiary and affiliated bodies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in order to mobilize efforts and achieve coordination and integration in the service of joint Islamic action.
The meeting reviewed the IsDB’s tireless efforts, achievements and future ambitions, which aim to raise the efficiency of sustainable development, enhance health, education, and sustainable infrastructure, as well as making cities more sustainable, and combating climate change. This is in addition to what these ambitions support to achieve peace and justice, and promote comprehensive and sustainable economic growth in OIC countries.
The meeting also highlighted the mechanism for achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in view of the different development goals from one country to another, and understanding the real needs of OIC member states as per the priorities of each country.
Al-Suhaibani praised the development mission presented by the Bank as one of the specialized organs of the OIC in terms of building partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society, facing development challenges, strengthening communication and financing, and focusing on SDGs, in addition to fostering cooperation among member states, to improve the humanitarian conditions of countries in need.
The Saudi envoy also commended the IsDB’s initiative to support recovery financing efforts for some countries in light of the global health and economic crisis, which requires urgent support to alleviate poverty, advance economic recovery, respond to the coronavirus pandemic, and strengthen sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by Counselor Saleh Al-Enezi, coordinator of the sectoral meetings file and specialized agencies, and Counselor Alaa El-Din Bin Khudair, coordinator of the economic and development affairs file. It was also attended by Dr. Muhammad Talal Simsim of the IsDB.
