Algiers (UNA-OIC) – More than 24 million Algerian voters are heading Sunday to the polling stations to decide on a draft constitution amendment.
The National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) has developed a health protocol to regulate the conduct of the referendum process, approved by the Scientific Committee for monitoring the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic. The protocol includes all the stages through which this referendum will be organized.
Algeria will go back to allowing its presidents a maximum of two terms in office if the constitutional amendments are approved in Sunday’s referendum. MPs would also serve for a maximum of two terms.
According to the electoral law, the polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m. nationwide and are scheduled to close at 7:00 p.m. local time.
