Creating a lie too seemingly absurd to have been contrived that everyone will have to believe it’s true is the principle behind the Big Lie theory. The opposite of that is creating a reality so absurd that no one will believe it. The latter is the guiding principle behind government "Black Ops."
Normally dismissed by rational people as the product of an overactive imagination, the existence of "Black" operations, or the intelligence operations of a government to inflict violence and destruction upon its citizens (or those of a friendly country) to create a pretext for desired military intervention, has been documented in recent history.
Take Operation Northwoods. According to an ABC News report on November 7, 2001, "In the early 1960s, America’s top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba."
"Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities."
"The plans were developed as ways to trick the American public and the international community into supporting a war to oust Cuba’s then new leader, communist Fidel Castro."
"The plans had the written approval of all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and were presented to President Kennedy’s defense secretary, Robert McNamara, in March 1962. But they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years."
Perhaps what spawned the revelation of this incredible scandal in the mainstream press (this was already widely disseminated in the alternative media) only 2 months after the September 11 attacks was the growing suspicion among many Americans that the official government narrative regarding the attacks may not be altogether true; that, perhaps, certain elements in the intelligence community were not necessarily unaware of what was going to happen. Maybe it’s not just the intelligence community.
Certainly there are those in the intelligence and political establishments who value the utility of "Black" intelligence ops, especially when the stakes are so high: the seizure of the world’s wealth and resources, empire building, global economic superiority, and cultural imperialism. A country that touts itself as a beacon for human rights and the rule of international law and legitimacy cannot launch attacks against other countries without a pretext. So, if one doesn’t exist, it must be created.
The Israelis know that all too well.
Since the September 11 attacks, the Sharon administration and Israel’s American propagandists have tried desperately to juxtapose Israel’s decades-old colonial war of aggression against the Palestinians with our fight against al-Qaeda. When interviewed shortly after the attacks, former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quoted as saying, "This is good for Israel." Sure it is. What better way to generate virulent hatred for the Palestinians, thereby justifying anything the Israelis do to them, than to have Americans put Palestinian resistance to their oppression in the same category with al-Qaeda’s attacks?
Toward that nefarious end, the Israeli Shin Bet has been trying to organize phony "al-Qaeda" cells in Gaza in what is perhaps the darkest in a long list of previous Israeli "Black Ops" cited by Ari- Ben-Menashe, a former Israeli Defense Forces arms dealer, in his book, Profits of War: Inside the Secret U.S.-Israeli Arms Network. Ben-Menashe revealed that Israeli intelligence organizations regularly engaged in "black propaganda operations," espionage activity designed to show "what a deadly, cut throat bunch the Palestinians are."
It was reported in a Ha’aretz article by Danny Rubinstein titled "Ibrahim, the Shin Bet Wants You to Join al-Qaeda," that Shin Bet operatives have been posing as al-Qaeda agents and approaching unsuspecting youth with offers of money to join and help organize "al-Qaeda" cells in Gaza. The article elaborates on the interaction between an apolitical Palestinian youth named Ibrahim who was repeatedly approached by an undercover Shin bet agent named "Ahmed." Ibrahim grew suspicious of this terrorist organizer and reported it to Palestinian preventive security agents in Gaza, who informed him that "Ahmed” was a known Shin Bet agent.
The presence of the internationally reviled "al-Qaeda" in Gaza is exactly what the Israelis need to further justify their increasingly brutal terror tactics against the Palestinians and perhaps even spawn future American military intervention, which is something Israel’s surrogates in Washington have already been successful in doing in Libya, Lebanon, and most recently, Iraq. All the while, of course, the Israeli occupation army will use the smoke of the ensuing chaos to seize more Arab land, build new settlements, and create a more robust mechanism to dispossess and ethnically cleanse the Palestinians.
Of course the average Israeli is as unaware of the Mossad’s "Black Ops," as the average American is of the CIA’s. But they do exist –” don’t they, "Ahmed"?
