Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen congratulated the Iraqi government and people on holding the parliamentary elections on October 10, in a peaceful, orderly and secure atmosphere.
The Secretary-General praised the efforts made to organize these elections and ensure their success, hoping that such a step would foster stability and prosperity in Iraq.
It is noteworthy that Al-Othaimeen had dispatched a delegation from the OIC General Secretariat to observe the parliamentary elections. The delegation visited several polling stations in various districts of Baghdad and its suburbs and closely followed the electoral process.
The delegation members held a meeting with the Deputy Chair of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC). They reviewed the various preparations and arrangements.
The head of the delegation conveyed the greetings of the Secretary-General to the IHEC and his wishes for the success of the electoral process and the promotion of stability, security, and progress for the Iraqi people.
The delegation stressed the importance that the OIC attaches to observing elections in the member states, based on the relevant provisions in the OIC Charter and the decisions and resolutions of the Islamic Summit and the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM).
