UNA urges journalists of OIC countries to participate in 'Future of Digital Media' workshop

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) has called on employees of the member news agencies, radio and television corporations, and media professionals of newspapers and platforms in the Islamic world, to participate in the Union’s virtual workshop on Wednesday, 7 October 2020.
The workshop, entitled “The Future of Digital Media Post Coronavirus Pandemic”, is organized by the Union in partnership with the Information Department of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Islamic Broadcasting Union (IBU).
The workshop will be administered by Digital Media Expert Dr. Ammar Bakkar in Arabic with simultaneous interpretation into English and French. It is organized within the outcome of the Union’s Virtual Media Forum, entitled “The Role of News Agencies in Supporting the Efforts to Combat Coronavirus”, held on 16 May 2020, under the patronage of Saudi Arabia’s Acting Media Minister Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, who serves as the chairman of the UNA Executive Council.
During the forum, the Union’s training program, which aims to develop the capabilities of 2,200 media professionals from the OIC countries, was launched.
It should be noted that the Union had organized three workshops within the program, including “Methods of fact-checking news during crises and spread of rumors” – conducted in Arabic and later in French – In addition to a workshop entitled “Media Interaction with the Implications of Child Rights in Light of the Coronavirus Crisis”.
