Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) will organize next Tuesday, March 21, 2023, a virtual workshop themed “The Media Circulation of the Terminology of the Palestinian Cause”, with the participation of UNA member news agencies, representatives of international organizations, and media experts.
The workshop will be held through two panel discussions. The first investigates the relationship between the terms used in media coverage of events in Palestine on the one hand and the international resolutions issued on the Palestinian cause on the other. It also evaluates these terms according to their adherence to the provisions of international law and their support of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
The second panel reviews the various issues related to the terms employed by international media outlets in reporting on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The organization of this workshop comes to implement the resolutions issued by the UNA General Assembly and the Islamic Conferences of OIC Media Ministers, which called for taking the necessary steps in combating disinformation and misinformation about the Palestinian people and Israel’s unlawful occupation and aggression in the territories of the State of Palestine.
Mohammed Abd Rabbo Al-Yami, UNA Acting Director-General, said the workshop aims to enhance media practitioners’ awareness of terminology related to the Palestinian cause with a particular focus on the correct terms based on international legitimacy and its resolutions.
Al-Yami revealed that the workshop aims to set up the outlines for a comprehensive media guideline on terms related to the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
He called on media professionals in Islamic countries to attend the workshop, which will be broadcast via Zoom on the following link: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_zdxRTxBlQsiZYtddNDKudA
