UN Chief condemns deadly terrorist attack in Somalia

New York (UNA-OIC) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned Thursday’s deadly terrorist attack on a UN convoy passing near a school in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, killing eight people and wounding 17 including 13 children.

The UN chief extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to those injured in the blast. He also called on the Somali authorities to bring the perpetrators of this incident to justice.

The Secretary-General expressed full solidarity with the Government and the people of Somalia, as well as its support for them in their fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

This latest in a string of deadly blasts this year in Somalia was claimed by al Shabaab militants, who said they intended to strike a UN security convoy passing near Mucassar School in Mogadishu.
