Ulyanov says surprised by absence of top European negotiators in JCPOA talks

Ulyanov made the comment in response to a question by IRNA as he spoke with reporters outside Palais Coburg Hotel where the Vienna talks are taking place to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The Russian negotiator spoke of what he called a serious stance by both the US and Iran, saying that progress has been made, and that the “Iranians are seeking a solution”.

On safeguard issues remaining between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, Ulyanov said that those issues should be resolved as soon as possible and Russia supports Iran in this regard.

Ulyanov said that the Vienna talks are aimed at reviving the Iran deal and removing sanctions against the country, adding that an agreement is possible.

On the atmosphere of the talks, the Russia negotiator said that all sides are willing to reach a positive result and are making their efforts, and that the negotiations are going ahead in the right direction.

He expressed hope that the talks can bear results within the shortest possible time, but added that there is no guarantee, because there is no agreement until all issues are not agreed on.

On a question that how long the talks will continue, Ulyanov said “we are talking about several days not weeks”.
