Malaysia celebrates its National Day

Kuala Lumpur (UNA-OIC) – Malaysia celebrated on Wednesday its National Day with massive festivals across the country, including Independence Square in the capital, Kuala Lumpur (Merdeka).

Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that by feeling deep love for Malaysia, different races could continue to work together and remain united to defend the peace and independence of the nation.

In his Independence Day speech, the Prime Minister said that this sentiment is a cornerstone of efforts to develop Malaysia and preserve its sovereignty.

“In the context of brotherhood, our people enjoy the protection and maintain ethnic unity. We are all one family,” he added.

Ismail Sabri reminded Malaysians that the fruits of independence and its blessings did not fall like this but were achieved through blood, sweat and tears.

“Many lives have been lost and property damaged in the pursuit of independence,” he added.

He emphasized that “this spirit must be inculcated in the young generation so that they know our national heroes, in addition to guiding our leaders towards the right path under religious teachings and demands.”

“It was this fighting spirit and struggles that paved the way for the 1956 independence talks in London,” the Prime Minister said.

He stressed that the values of independence succeeded in promoting unity within the diverse community of different races and religions, as well as integrating cultures that stretch across the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak.

It is noteworthy that the celebrations witnessed military parades and art and music exhibitions and were witnessed by thousands of people after two years in which the celebrations were absent due to the Coronavirus.
