“We are saddened to receive the news that the flood disaster occurred due to the heavy rainfalls in the whole Niger caused many loss of lives and extensive damage,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Friday.
“We share the grief of the friendly and brotherly Nigerien people. We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives in the disaster, extend our sincere condolences to their relatives and to the Government of Niger,” it added.
Flooding has killed at least 45 people and led to the displacement of more than 226,000 from their homes in the West African country. Days of heavy rain in Niger’s western region caused the Niger River to overflow, practically shutting down the capital, Niamey.
