Tunis (UNA-OIC) – Bilateral cooperation and the issue of looted money were the focus of a telephone conversation on Wednesday between Tunisian President Kaîs Saied and President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga.
Quoted in a statement by Tunisia’s Presidency, the two sides reaffirmed their willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation and diversify its areas.
The Swiss official commended the creation of a special committee within the Tunisian Presidency to follow up on this issue, assuring that her country’s authorities have spared no effort to resolve this file in recent years.
In this regard, the President of the Swiss Confederation invited the Tunisian side to further mobilize before the expiry of the legal deadlines (July 2021).
For his part, President Kaîs welcomed the support provided by Switzerland to Tunisia to complete the process of democratic transition, expressing the wish to see bilateral cooperation further developed in light of the socio-economic challenges faced by Tunisia.
He called, in this vein, to consolidate cooperation in the fields of health, communication technologies, vocational training, higher education and scientific research.
Referring, in particular, economy and health, the statement said, “It was agreed to establish a framework agreement covering all areas.”
