Sudan, UN discuss Spotlight Initiative to end violence against women and girls

Khartoum (UNA-OIC) – Sudanese Minister of Social Development Ahmed Adam Bakheet and UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan Khardiata Lo N’diaye discussed here on Wednesday the Spotlight Initiative: Ending violence against women and girls.

The two sides reaffirmed the conduct of wide-ranging consultations at the levels of Sudan’s localities and states for engagement of stakeholders in specifying the priorities. They also reviewed the steps taken by the transitional government to eliminate violence against women and girls as well as promoting women’s rights in general.

With the aim of ending all forms of violence against women and girls by 2030, the European Union and the United Nations have been collaborating since 2017 to empower, promote, and protect the rights of women and girls worldwide. The Spotlight Initiative is a €500 million program that deploys targeted, large-scale investments in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Pacific.
