Juba (UNA-OIC) – A high-level delegation from the leadership of the South Sudan Islamic Council (SSIC) met on Saturday with Vice President of the Republic for the Humanitarian Affairs and Youth Sector Mama Rebecca de Mabior.
The delegation members briefed the vice president on the outcome of the donation campaign recently launched by the SSIC, under the title: “The Great Campaign for Flood Victims in Jonglei”. They also gave her a full explanation of the initiative to support the victims of the floods and the campaign to raise in-kind and financial contributions in the local markets, where Muslim merchants represent about 80 percent of the total merchants, as well as the mosque committees campaign during Friday prayers and regular prayers and attracting national companies and other investment sectors.
Further, the delegation informed Ms. de Mabior of the Council’s appeal to international humanitarian organizations to support the initiative to achieve an urgent response to those affected by the floods. In this regard, the delegation requested a recommendation from the Presidency of the Republic to the SSIC and Al Haqiqa Organization for Humanitarian Aid for coordination with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), so that a KSRelief delegation can visit South Sudan to assess the actual needs of the flood victims.
On her part, the vice president thanked the SSIC delegation for their initiative, stressing that religions are a source of inspiration for unity and solidarity among people.
