Riyadh (UNA-OIC) – As part of the activities accompanying the Saudi G20 Presidency, the Kingdom will host the First International Standards Summit in Riyadh on Wednesday, under the patronage of Minister of Commerce Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi.
The event will bring together international speakers and representatives of international organizations, including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), as well as heads of national standardization bodies from various countries of the world.
The summit will highlight the role of standards and national standardization bodies in facing crises, and their role in enabling the public, private and non-profit institutions to overcome these crises and reduce their negative effects. It will also discuss the role of standards in promoting digital transformation.
The summit is organized virtually by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and the G20 Saudi Secretariat, in partnership with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, the Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), ISO, IEC and ITU.
This first international summit specialized in standards comes as an affirmation of the pioneering role assumed by Saudi Arabia in promoting ways and means of cooperation and integration between nations in various fields, especially technical areas that boost economic capabilities and push the rates of trade and investment exchange to broader horizons.
