New York (UNA-OIC) – Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah affirmed that the Saudi government attaches great importance to preserving the environment and biodiversity.

He also emphasized that the issue of the environment and its protection has been adopted within the Basic Law of Governance in accordance with Article 32 thereof, which stipulates the state’s commitment to preserving, protecting and developing the environment as well as preventing pollution.

This came in a speech that Prince Farhan delivered virtually at the United Nations Summit on Biodiversity, held on Thursday morning under the theme “Urgent action on biodiversity for sustainable development”, in the presence of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and President of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly Ambassador Volkan Bozkir.

The top Saudi diplomat said: “We live in a land full of vital natural resources, and hence the endeavor to protect these resources and preserve their sustainability was a human duty and a common goal that benefits both the earth and humanity, and I thank you for presiding over the summit of biodiversity, and my country’s delegation also supports what is included in the Statement of the Group of 77 and China.
