Russia registers world's first COVID-19 vaccine, Putin announces

Moscow (UNA-OIC) – Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Tuesday that his country has registered the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine, saying his daughter is among those already inoculated.

“This morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the new coronavirus was registered” in Russia, Putin said during a televised video conference call with government ministers.

He added that the vaccine, developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute, has proven efficient during tests and promises to offer “sustainable immunity” against the coronavirus.

“I would like to repeat that it has passed all the necessary tests,” the Russian leader said, confirming that one of his daughters has already been inoculated and is feeling well.
