Renowned Iranian poet Saadi commemorated in Tajikistan

Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Tajikistan Mohammad Taghi Saberi attended a meeting with scientists, and academics of Tajikistan at the National University of Tajikistan.

Expressing his satisfaction with taking part in a meeting attended by Tajik scholars and academics, Saberi said that Saadi is one of the top scholars of Persian poetry and literature.

He noted that Saadi is very popular among the people of the three Persian-speaking countries of Iran, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan, so Saadi is a prominent and distinguished figure for Persian speakers.

Chancellor of the Tajik National University Khushvakhtzoda Qobiljon Khushvakht said that Tajiks have been familiar with Saadi’s sweet words since childhood, and now Saadi’s words are one of the most significant pillars of Tajik school and university curricula.

Abu-Mohammad Muslih al-Din Shirazi, known by his pen-name Saadi, is one of the most prominent and greatest poets of Iran and the world. He is not only famous in the Persian-speaking countries, but in the western world.

Saadi is one of the most-often quoted literary figures in western sources that is recognized for the quality of his writings and for the depth of his social and moral thoughts. He was born in 1210 A.D. and died in 1291 or 1292 in Shiraz.
