Putin backs Iran’s accession to SCO

In his speech in the summit which is held in Samarkand, Russia, Putin mentioned the signing of membership documents by Iran and said that his country backed acceleration of the finalization process of Iran’s permanent membership.

He said that Iran’s full membership would affect the SCO positively, since the country has an important role in Eurasia and the whole world.

Iran had an observer status in the SCO until last year when all the member states accepted Tehran’s permanent membership request.

Iran’s President Raisi is now in Uzbekistan to attend the SCO summit. Iran signed the obligations memorandum which are part of the process to finalize membership in the SCO.

Raisi began his 3-day trip to Uzbekistan on Wednesday at the invitation of the Uzbek president. He has since met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and several other participating leaders.

He also gave a speech in the summit.
