President Barrow wins second term in Gambia's elections

Banjul (UNA-OIC) – Gambian President Adama Barrow won a second term in the presidential elections held on Saturday, December 4.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of The Gambia announced on Sunday that Barrow, of the ruling People’s National Party, secured 457,519 votes (53 percent of the vote). His main challenger Ousainou Darboe, leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), won 238,253 votes (27.7 percent of the vote).

IEC Chairman Alieu Momarr Njai declared Barrow the winner hours after rival candidates had challenged partial results that gave him a commanding lead. Crowds of Barrow’s supporters marched through the streets of the capital to a din of horns and danced on a vast esplanade.
