Ramallah (UNA-OIC) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received on Saturday Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, who is on an official visit to Palestine, and discussed with him a couple of issues and the political developments on the ground.

Speaking at a press conference with Safadi, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said Saturday’s meeting was a continuation of talks between the leaderships of Palestine and Jordan aimed at addressing the challenges facing the Palestinian cause in the upcoming period.

Meantime, Safadi said his visit comes as part of the efforts to create a real political horizon that leads to a comprehensive and just peace on the basis of the two-state solution, which embodies the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital.

“The current status quo cannot continue. There is no way for things to remain in the stalemate they are now. A real international movement is required to take us towards active engagement in the pursuit of a solution to the Palestinian issue, which has been the central priority for Jordan,” said the Jordanian foreign minister.

He added that the meeting discussed the importance of ensuring the necessary economic support for the Palestinian Authority (PA) to continue to serve the Palestinian people, the need to keep the current state of quiet in Palestine, and the importance of creating a real political horizon that leads to a comprehensive and just peace on the basis of the two-state solution.
