Palestine candidate elected as Chairman of ICESCO Executive Council

Cairo (UNA-OIC) – Candidate of the State of Palestine Dr. Dawas Tayseer Dawas was elected Chairman of the Executive Council of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

Dawas was elected after the second round of the election process for the Chairman of the ICESCO Executive Council, at the behest of the majority of the Council members and in accordance with the regulatory document of the voting process.

The Palestinian candidate secured 25 of the valid votes, while his nearest challenger, Moroccan candidate Jamal Eddine El-Aloua gained 15 votes.

The Council also completed the process of composing its Bureau, electing the representative of the Republic of Maldives as Vice-Chairman and the representative of the Republic of Guinea as Rapporteur.

Upon the composition of the Executive Council’s Bureau, ICESCO Director-General Dr. Salim AlMalik congratulated the winners and wished them every success. He also reiterated the keenness of the ICESCO General Directorate to sustain fruitful and constructive cooperation with the Executive Council and the National Commissions in the Member States.
