JEDDAH (UNA-OIC) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned as an act of piracy the kidnapping by the Houthi militia of a United Arab Emirates-flagged civilian ship carrying medical equipment for a Saudi field hospital.
The OIC considered the vessel commandeering a criminal act that would impede the freedom of maritime and commercial navigation guaranteed by international laws and instruments, and suspend shipment of humanitarian and relief aids to the Yemeni people.
The OIC General Secretariat called for the immediate release of the highjacked cargo ship.
