OIC Secretary General hails the final signing of Sudan peace agreement

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen praised the final signing of Sudan peace agreement in the South Sudanese capital, Juba, on Saturday, amid a large international and regional presence.

Al-Othaimeen hoped that this historic agreement constitutes an important step towards strengthening security, peace, and stability in Sudan. He also lauded the keenness of the transitional government and the armed movements to reach a comprehensive agreement that would stem Sudanese bloodshed and pave the way for sustainable development in the country.

The OIC chief appealed to the rest of the parties to engage in serious negotiations with the transitional government to reach a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace throughout Sudan.

Meanwhile, he commended South Sudan’s mediation efforts and the great support that Sudan has received from regional and international partners since the beginning of the negotiations to reach this important achievement.

The Secretary General reiterated the OIC’s firm position in support of the Republic of Sudan, and highly praised the country’s great role within the Organization, as well as its efforts in promoting Islamic solidarity and joint Islamic action.
