Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen called for boosting and supporting the academic and jurisprudential research projects led by the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), a subsidiary organ of the OIC.
This is to be done through contribution to the IIFA Endowment Fund, the statute of which was approved at the Intergovernmental Expert Meeting held on the subject, alongside the 44th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (Abidjan, July 2017).
Speaking to the second meeting of the Fund’s Board of Trustees, held virtually on Tuesday, the Secretary-General stressed the need to contribute financial support to the Fund to help IIFA achieve its short-term, mid-term and long-term strategic objectives.
Appealing to the Member States to subscribe to the call for contributions to the IIFA Endowment Fund, Al-Othaimeen explained that the need is urgent for the Academy, in order to tackle the pressing challenges in issuing fatwas and questions of moderation, extremist ideology and radical practices.
