OIC reiterates support for Saudi Arabia's 'Middle East Green Initiative'

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen praised the Middle East Green Initiative, instituted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

This came in a speech delivered on behalf of the OIC chief by Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakheet, at a virtual meeting held on Sunday at the Forum of the Civil Society Organizations Coalition to support the “Middle East Green Initiative”.

The Secretary-General stressed that this outstanding initiative is in line with the objectives of the OIC Charter, which calls for the protection and promotion of the environment for the benefit of all generations, as well as making all efforts to achieve sustainable and comprehensive human development and economic progress in the member states.

The initiative aims to contribute to the efforts of addressing climate change by increasing vegetation, reducing carbon emissions, combating pollution and land degradation, and preserving wildlife in the Middle Eastern countries, all of which are OIC member states.
