OIC commemorates 25th anniversary of Srebrenica massacre

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Saturday commemorated the 25thanniversary of the Srebrenica massacre, which took place a quarter of a century ago in blatant violation of international law and universally acknowledged moral standards.

“This anniversary is for us a painful reminder. Our hearts and thoughts are with the victims of this tragic event,” said OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, expressing deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those who died in the Srebrenica massacre and to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In this connection, Al-Othaimeen cited Resolution 18/38-POL on the Situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, issued at the 38th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (Astana, 28-30 June 2011), and the subsequent resolutions, adopted at various levels, which called on the Member States to observe 11 July as a “Day of Mourning” to honor the memory of those who were slain in the Srebrenica massacre.
