Jeddah, (UNA-OIC) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen received in his office on Wednesday, Ambassador Shafiq Samim, the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to OIC. The meeting underlined the important relations between the OIC and Afghanistan and means to enhance them.
The two sides also reviewed the developments of the peace process in Afghanistan and the intra-Afghan dialogue. The Secretary-General reiterated the OIC’s support for Afghanistan, its encouragement for intra-Afghan dialogue, recalling the OIC initiatives and efforts aimed at achieving reconciliation, and bringing about lasting peace within the framework of an Afghan-led and owned peace process.
He underscored the Resolutions issued by the OIC Summits and the Council of Foreign Ministers. The Secretary-General also highlighted the importance of the Makkah Declaration issued by the International Ulama Conference for Peace and Security in Afghanistan held in 2018, stressing the need for dialogue, reconciliation, and tolerance based on the noble Islamic values to achieve peace, security, stability, and development in Afghanistan. The Secretary-General called for renouncing violence and implementing the outcome document of the conference to overcome difficulties and obstacles and promote the peace process to achieve the aspirations of the Afghan people.
The Permanent Representative of Afghanistan appreciated the continued OIC support to Afghanistan and its peace process.
