OIC-CFM Approves the Appointment of Nassirou Bako-Arifari as the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Africa

JEDDAH (UNA-OIC) – The OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in its 48th session held in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, on 22-23 March 2022, on the theme “Partnering for Unity, Justice and Development” passed a resolution endorsing the appointment by the Secretary-General of Dr Nassirou Bako-Arifari as Special Envoy for Africa.

Dr Arifari served as minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Benin and was a university lecturer and researcher on political sociology. He worked at many national, regional and international universities.

This decision is driven by the Council’s belief in the importance of the African continent and its issues – the more so as a large number of OIC member states are from the African continent. The decision is also in response to the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit’s urge for greater attention to be given by the OIC to Africa and African issues.
