I would like to draw your kind attention to the unlawful and inhuman imprisonment of U Kyaw Min (alias Mohammad Shamsul Anwarul Hoque) –” the NDPHR (National Democratic Party for Human Rights) leader and Committee Representing the People’s Parliament (CRPP) member – who is now serving 47 years term in the Insein Prison of Burma (Myanmar). He was arrested on 17 March, 2005 by a group of Police Special Branch of the SPDC Military regime and later his wife and three children were also arrested by the said Police Special Branch. On 29 July, 2005 U Kyaw Min was sentenced to 47 years imprisonment on ludicrous charges related to his nationality. His wife and three children were also sentenced to 17-years term on the same ground.
For your information, U Kyaw Min is a bonafide citizen of Myanmar (Burma) who is born and brought up in the Arakan State. Later he moved to the capital Rangoon (Yangon) with his family members. He was a member of the NDPHR’s Central Executive Committee and was elected as a Member of the Parliament of Buthidaung Township constituency Number 1 in the Arakan State of Burma. He was also a member of CRPP to represent the NDPHR. I strongly believe that U Kyaw Min was punished because of his active participation in the CRPP of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi challenging the SPDC Military regime.
The show–”cause of the SPDC about U Kyaw Min’s nationality is totally absurd, as Burmese Election Commission would never allow a foreigner to participate in a General Election without scrutinizing the nationality status. The Myanmar ruling junta did not recognize his citizenship to his native country, while he and his family were all along Burmese nationals by birth. This is a gross violation of the UN charter and the Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The sentence is also beyond belief and is the harshest imposed ever in the judicial history of Burma to punish an innocent democrat on fabricated political and nationality charges. There is no doubt that he is a victim because of his ethnic background and religion.
I fervently request you to kindly put pressure on the Myanmar regime to have the NDPHR leader and CRPP member U Kyaw Min (a.k.a.) Mohammad Shamsul Anwarul Hoque and his family members released immediately from the notorious Insein Prison on humanitarian ground. Their arrest is in violation of the Articles (1-3, 5, 9, 10, 15-21) of the Universal Declarations of Human Rights. They need your help.
