Libya, WHO agree to coordinate anti-COVID efforts

Tripoli (UNA-OIC) – Libya’s Health Minister Ali Al-Zanati met here on Tuesday with Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Libya Elizabeth Hoff and her accompanying delegation.

The meeting focused on reviewing and formulating health policies and strategies, as well as identifying priorities and necessary medical supplies of COVID-19 isolation centers in the North African nation.

Ms. Hoff stressed WHO’s full commitment to cooperate with the Libyan authorities to combat the coronavirus pandemic, and to coordinate quickly to provide Libya with the most needed medicines and medical supplies.

The two parties reached an agreement to provide three oxygen factories in coordination with the Italian side, and to cooperate in developing the Libyan health system in such areas as emergency services, rural hospitals and children healthcare. They also agreed to provide HIV medicines sufficient for six months.
