Sudan’s Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok (SUNA)
Khartoum (UNA-OIC) – The Sudanese government has welcomed the statements by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in which he noted that removing Sudan from the state sponsors of terrorism list is in the interest of the American foreign policy.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Sudan’s transitional cabinet welcomed Pompeo’s statements of 30 July before the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, in which he renewed the desire of the US administration to remove Sudan from the list of states accused of sponsoring international terrorism.
The Sudanese government also promised to do its level best to meet the requirements that would help the US administration take a positive action towards removing Sudan’s terrorism designation, according to the statement carried by Sudan News Agency (SUNA).
The cabinet further praised the role of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and Senator Chris Coons, who urged the US administration to back the Sudanese civilian government led by Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok.
The cabinet expressed Sudan’s readiness to continue working with the American administration to create a climate conducive to having the country removed from the infamous list.
Meanwhile, Hamdok affirmed his commitment to making continuous efforts with all friends in the United States and beyond, in order to close this file and pave the way for Sudan’s full reintegration into the international community.
