Palestinian Foreign Ministry summons Czech diplomat over diplomatic office in Jerusalem

Ramallah, (UNA-OIC) – The Palestinian Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry summoned a Czech diplomat on Thursday over the Czech Republic’s plan to open a diplomatic office in Jerusalem.

Acting on President Mahmoud Abbas and Foreign Minister Riyad Malki’s instructions, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry Amal Jadou summoned the head of the Czech Republic Representative Office to Palestine Petr Starý to seek clarifications on the Czech Foreign Ministry’s announcement on permanently stationing a diplomat from its embassy in Tel Aviv at its honorary consulate in Jerusalem.

Jadou expressed Palestine’s denunciation of this step, which, as she described, constitutes a blatant violation of international law, a breakaway from the unified European position on the legal status of Jerusalem, as well as an encroachment upon the Palestinian people’s rights and sovereignty over its territories.

She demanded the Czech Republic reverse this serious step, which would have severe implications on regional stability and the political efforts aimed at achieving Middle East peace.
