Head of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, South Sudanese VP discuss border issues

Khartoum (UNA-OIC) – Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan received here on Monday Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan Hussein Abdelbaqi, and discussed with him the bilateral relations between the two countries and issues of mutual concern.

Abdelbaqi said in a press statement that the meeting discussed the border issues and freedom of movement for citizens between Sudan and South Sudan. He pointed out that freedom of movement for citizens of the two neighboring counties should not be restricted.

The vice president added that the meeting also dealt with implementing service projects such as the railway project, paved roads and legalizing trade between the two countries.

Abdulbaqi raised the problems of South Sudanese citizens who have not yet moved to their homeland, as well as the issues of students, especially the medical students, who suffer from the lack of job opportunities in Sudan. He stated that visits will be conducted by senior officials and experts to Sudan for the purpose of training and exchange of experiences.

The South Sudanese vice president announced that the Joint Border Conference would be held early next year under the auspices of Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir. He underscored that the peoples of the two countries will work together to cement the bilateral relations and cooperation.
