Gov’t extends restriction on entry of foreigners in Brazil

The restriction on the entry of foreigners in Brazil was postponed by another 30 days, as per recommendations for the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) by the country’s sanitary watchdog Anvisa. The decision was published on the Official Gazette today (Jul. 1).

The restriction includes foreigners of any nationality entering the country through land, air, or sea. There are exceptions, for instance, if foreigners come to carry out artistic, sports, or business activities, as long as trips are short and they have no intention of staying in the country.

Foreigners coming by plane with a temporary visa to reside in the country indefinitely with purposes of research, teaching, or academic extension, study, work, investment, family reunion, or artistic and sports activities with a contract for a determined period of time, are also allowed to enter the country.

This entry, however, must take place through the international airports of São Paulo (Guarulhos), Rio de Janeiro (Galeão), Campinas (Viracopos), and Brasília (Juscelino Kubitschek).

To enter the country, the foreign national must, before boarding, produce a medical statement issued by a local sanitary or medical authority, demonstrating they are not infected with COVID-19.
