Freedom of expression does not mean offending religions, OIC chief tells French FM

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – Secretary General of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen on Thursday received a phone call from French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

During the telephone conversation, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the OIC and France.

Al-Othaimeen reiterated the OIC’s firm stance that rejects extremism, terrorism and radicalism, and that this phenomenon has no religion or nationality. At the same time, he stressed that freedom of expression does not mean offending religions or religious symbols.

For his part, Le Drian underscored that France respects Islam and that it is keen on supporting dialogue and cooperation with the OIC.
