Bamako (UNA-OIC) – Mali’s former and second president, Moussa Traoré, who ruled the country between 1968 and 1991, has died at the age of 83, media sources close to a family member of the deceased announced on Tuesday.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the ruling Military Council affirmed that Traoré died in the capital, Bamako, without giving details on the cause of his death.
Traoré seized power in a military coup in 1968, eight years after Mali gained independence from France, and amid growing discontent with then-president Modibo Keita, the country’s first president.
