First round of border demarcation talks between Lebanon and Israel kicks off

Beirut (UNA-OIC) – The first round of US-mediated border demarcation negotiations kicked off Wednesday in Ras Naqoura under the auspices of the United Nations, Lebanon National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The maritime border negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are taking place at a neutral headquarters of the Command of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Ras Naqoura, with the mediation of the United States represented by Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker, who arrived in Beirut on Tuesday, and under the auspices of the UN represented by its Special Coordinator for Lebanon Ján Kubiš.

Naqoura is witnessing tight security measures taken by the Lebanese army and UNIFIL, and round-the-clock patrols accompanying the first round of the negotiations. The demarcation negotiations in the first meeting between the Lebanese and Israeli delegations will have a protocol and exploratory nature.
