Accra (UNA-OIC) – The Fifty-Ninth Ordinary Session of the Authority of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Heads of State and Government began on Saturday in the Ghanaian capital Accra.
The ECOWAS leaders are scheduled to discuss reports from the Council of Ministers meeting, held in Accra on June 16-17, and other issues including peace and stability in the region, as well as the ongoing institutional reform process within the ECOWAS Vision 2050 and the Single Currency Project.
The participants in the summit will also discuss ways to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to the various member countries of the group, and the actual start of local production of the vaccine within a reasonable time frame.
ECOWAS is made up of 15 member countries that are located in the Western African region, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
