Cairo (UNA-OIC) – A delegation headed by H.E. Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, Secretary-General of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), visited the Women Development Organization’s Headquarters in Cairo/ Egypt. He met with H.E. Ambassador Ehab Fawzy, the Deputy Executive Director of WDO.
Ambassador Imam, who is on an official visit to Egypt, gave a brief background about D-8 and its mandate, which focuses on economic development in its countries, especially in the fields of agriculture, industry transportation, tourism, and manufacturing with a concentration on SMEs.
He expressed his organization’s willingness to cooperate closely with WDO as they embarked on initiatives on youth empowerment and education, and they now need to focus on women’s empowerment.
Ambassador Fawzy gave a presentation to the D-8 delegation about WDO and its activities. He highlighted that the first thematic pillar of WDO on the economic empowerment and financial inclusion of women can lead to great avenues for other potential areas of cooperation between the two organizations.
They agreed that the technical teams from both organizations will meet soon to put in place a clear roadmap for their cooperation during this year, as D-8 is celebrating its 25th Anniversary.
It is worth mentioning that both WDO and D-8 member states are also member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
