COVID-19: Brazil has 59,962 new cases in 24h

Of the total of Brazilians infected by the novel coronavirus, 68.6% have recovered from the disease, 3.7 percent died, and 27.7 percent are receiving treatment. The figures can be found in the daily report published by the Health Ministry on Thursday (Jul. 23).

Brazil’s total case tally since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 2,228,475. In the last 24 hours, 59,962 new positive diagnoses were added to the statistics. Thus far, 1,570,237 patients have recovered and 633,156 are being treated.

The country reached 84,082 deaths due to the new coronavirus. According to the official report, 1,311 deaths were registered from Wednesday to Thursday.

Of the 27 Brazilian states, São Paulo (452,007/20,894), Rio de Janeiro (151,549/12,535), and Ceará (156,242/7,374) are the ones with the highest number of confirmed cases and deaths from COVID-19 respectively.

Brazil stands second on the global COVID-19 ranking for both confirmed and fatal cases, preceded only by the US, which recently reached 4 million infected and 144,032 deaths from the novel coronavirus.
