Chinese ambassador urges unity to overcome security challenges

“Stability brings a country prosperity while instability leads a country to poverty,” the Chinese envoy quoted ancient Chinese texts as saying.

He added that the truth and history have repeatedly proved that security is precondition of development and humankind cannot avoid the collective nature of security.

Entering the 21st century as an era characterized by deep interdependence of interests of all countries, a condition has developed in which the Cold War mentality would only wreck the global peace framework, hegemonism and power politics would only endanger world peace, and bloc confrontation would only exacerbate security challenges.

Ambassador Hua mentioned Chinese President Xi Jinping’s online speech in Boao Forum for Asia on April 21 in which he elaborated his “Global Security Initiative”.

The world today not only lacks peaceful conditions, but also it is deprived of peace itself and the world is witnessing the rise of security hotspots in different regions and the security of Europe has once again drawn the global attention, Mr. Hua opined.

Unilateralism, hegemonism and power politics have been intensified like never before and security, trust and governance are in trouble, according to the Chinese diplomat who added that the list of security-related issues of humankind is getting longer every day, pouring distrust into the global security prospect.

Hua said that Xi’s initiative consists of six pillars: 1) staying committed to the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, and working together to maintain world peace and security; 2) staying committed to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, upholding non-interference in internal affairs, and respecting the independent choices of development paths and social systems made by people in different countries; 3) staying committed to abiding by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, rejecting the Cold War mentality, opposing unilateralism, and saying no to group politics and bloc confrontation; 4) staying committed to taking the legitimate security concerns of all countries seriously, upholding the principle of indivisible security, building a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture, and opposing the pursuit of one’s own security at the cost of others’ security; 5) staying committed to peacefully resolving differences and disputes between countries through dialogue and consultation, supporting all efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of crises, rejecting double standards, and opposing the wanton use of unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction; 6) staying committed to maintaining security in both traditional and non-traditional domains, and working together on regional disputes and global challenges such as terrorism, climate change, cybersecurity and biosecurity.

Mr. Hua called the initiative a contribution of Chinese wisdom in today’s unprecedented global developments, elaborating on required basic ideas, committing to fundamental principles, important rules, long-term goals and operation thoughts for realizing global security.

The initiative, according to the ambassador, also offers significant instructions to realize and advance the reformation of the structure global governance and security and establish a global community who share the same destiny.

He also said that the initiative welcomed joining of all countries in the world, including Iran, to the process, with China being an active country in implementation of the initiative.

He mentioned an old Chinese saying, “Keep walking and one will not be daunted by a thousand miles; make constant efforts and one will not be intimidated by a thousand tasks,” adding: Suffice it we join hands and continue the path with a tireless spirit so that we can build great synergy to overcome the various challenges along the way, and usher in a brighter and better future for humanity.
