Brazil reports over 31 thousand deaths from COVID-19

The daily report made public Tuesday (Jun. 2) by the Ministry of Health includes 28,936 new people infected with the novel coronavirus, bringing the total up to 555,383. The figure is up 5.4 percent from the previous day’s 526,447.

The updated numbers also reveal 1,262 new deaths, which raises the death toll to 31,199, the highest number of related obits in 24 hours since the pandemic started, up 4.2 percent from Monday’s 29,937

These numbers tend to be lower on Sundays and Mondays as a result of limitations in the way databases are fed by health secretariats at the weekend, and higher on Tuesday due to the amount of notifications pending from the previous days.

Of the total case tally, 300,546 are being monitored and 223,638 have recovered. There are 4,312 deaths being investigated.

São Paulo is still the epicenter of the disease in the country, with the highest number of people killed by the disease (7,994). The state is followed by Rio de Janeiro (5,585), Ceará (3,421), Pará (3,040), and Pernambuco (2,933). People are also reported to have died from COVID-19 in all other Brazilian states.
