Arab League appreciates Kuwait's humanitarian assistance to UNRWA

Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Said Abu Ali

Cairo (UNA-OIC) – The Arab League on Tuesday voiced appreciation to the State of Kuwait for offering humanitarian aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Addressing a League videoconference, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Said Abu Ali said Kuwaiti backing for UNRWA came at a time when the refugee agency was under astringent broadside and suffered dwindling international funding.

In this context, he underlined that humanitarian aid at present is essential for easing out the anguish and woes of Palestinian refugees amidst the reflections of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on host countries and UNRWA’s lingering financial trouble.

On Israeli violations of Palestinian rights, the Cairo-based Arab bloc’s senior official emphasized that the international community should live up to its due responsibilities by moving immediately to halt such Israeli malpractices and protect the defenseless Palestinian people.

Abu Ali cautioned that should Israeli occupation authorities keep on breaching Palestinian rights, then there would be bare consequences on international security and cooperation.
