Afghan President asks UN to align peace efforts with new realities

Kabul (UNA-OIC) – Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Deborah Lyons, at the Presidential Palace on Sunday.

Ms. Lyons, who is also the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), presented a report to President Ghani and highlighted the latest UN’s efforts in the Afghan peace process, according to a presidential palace statement.

The Afghan President reciprocally articulated the preferences and views of the government and people of Afghanistan regarding peace with consideration to the current context and the new chapter of relations.

Ghani asked the international partners, particularly the UN, to align their efforts and perspectives in the peace process with new realities and the new chapter of cooperation between Afghanistan and the international community.
