Cairo (UNA-OIC) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discuss during a phone call with British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on Sunday, the latest developments concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis, the British embassy in Cairo noted.
According to the brief statement on Sunday by the British embassy, the ministers also discussed developments in Libya, as well as the peace process in the Middle East.
“The recent weeks witnessed an extensive collaboration between the two countries on certain issues, including regional security, commerce, and joint efforts against the (COVID-19) virus pandemic,” the UK statement read.
On Tuesday, Cairo, Addis Ababa, and Khartoum announced that the talk on the GERD’s filling and operation policies would be resumed.
Later that day, Ethiopia announced it had completed the filling of the mega-dams reservoir scheduled for the first year.
Hence, both Egypt and Sudan have repeatedly warned against any unilateral actions by Ethiopia, calling for a binding legal agreement on the dam’s filling and operation policies.
In the past few days, Shoukry has spoken to a number of European officials about Libya, reasserting Egypt’s call for a comprehensive political settlement that would halt foreign intervention in the country, especially the transfer of foreign fighters.
